Alnwick Castle

Hogwarts flying lessons

The castle's courtyards and grounds became parts of Hogwarts in the first two Harry Potter films. The Outer Bailey is especially recognisable as the setting for Harry's first broomstick lesson, and the castle now runs film-location activities alongside its historic visitor experience.

Getting there

Alnwick Castle is beside Alnwick town centre, around a seven-minute walk from Alnwick bus station. From Alnmouth railway station, around four miles away, continue by the X18 or X20 bus or a pre-booked taxi.

For the admission office and the pedestrian entrance from Castle Square, use postcode NE66 1NG. There is also a visitor entrance beside The Alnwick Garden; use postcode NE66 1HB for that entrance.

Drivers should use the shared Alnwick Castle and Alnwick Garden visitor car park off Denwick Lane (B1340), postcode NE66 1FJ, rather than navigating to the pedestrian entrance.

The castle is a seasonal attraction, so confirm that it is open before arranging a journey outside the main visitor season.
