Hogwarts cloisters
Durham Cathedral's cloister and Chapter House appeared as Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. The cloister is the most recognisable area, including the snowy courtyard where Harry releases Hedwig and covered walks used between lessons.

The cathedral sits on Durham's historic peninsula, about a 20-minute walk from Durham railway station. Local buses connect the station and city centre with stops nearer Palace Green.
The final approach includes old streets and gradients. Visitors who prefer not to make the uphill walk can use the Cathedral Bus when it is operating.
Enter as a cathedral visitor and follow on-site signs for the cloister. Services, events and university use can occasionally restrict access to individual spaces.
General cathedral and cloister entry is free, with donations encouraged. The museum, tower and special events may have separate charges. Opening can change for worship and events, so check the cathedral calendar on the day of your visit.
There is no general visitor parking at the cathedral. Use city-centre car parks or Durham Park & Ride. Limited parking on Palace Green can be arranged for disabled visitors through Durham University.
The cloister is fully accessible by ramped or level routes, with seating along the way. Most of the cathedral, museum, shop and restaurant can be reached using ramps and lifts, although uneven floors, low light and stair-only areas remain.
The cathedral complex includes toilets, accessible toilets, a restaurant, shop and visitor desk. Durham city centre has additional cafés and services nearby.
