Lacock Abbey and Village

Hogwarts classrooms and village scenes

Lacock Abbey's cloisters, Chapter House, Sacristy and Warming Room became Hogwarts interiors in the first two films, while the preserved village supplied streets and houses used elsewhere in the series. The village is free to explore; entry to the abbey is ticketed.

Getting there

Lacock is near Chippenham in Wiltshire. The Faresaver X34 bus between Chippenham, Melksham and Frome stops at the end of the High Street, less than five minutes from visitor reception.

By car, follow signs to the National Trust car park on Hither Way rather than driving into the historic village streets.

The village locations can be explored independently. Buy an abbey ticket at visitor reception to see the cloisters and interior rooms used for Hogwarts.

Before you go

Opening and price

Lacock village streets are free and always lived-in public spaces. The abbey, cloisters, museum and grounds have seasonal opening hours and paid admission; individual rooms can close for conservation or events.

Parking

The signed Hither Way car park is under 400 metres from visitor reception and charges non-members for the day. Accessible bays and a closer drop-off arrangement are available.

Accessibility

The site includes cobbles, gravel, slopes and historic thresholds. Step-free routes are available to many principal areas and a closer drop-off can be requested, but not every part of the abbey is accessible.

Nearby facilities

The National Trust site has toilets, accessible facilities, cafés, a shop and a bookshop. The village also has pubs, cafés and independent shops.
