London Zoo Reptile House

Harry talks to the snake

London Zoo's historic 1927 Reptile House was used for the scene in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone where Harry first discovers he can speak to snakes. The reptiles have since moved to a newer habitat, but the listed building remains part of the zoo's story.

Getting there

London Zoo is on the Outer Circle of Regent's Park. Camden Town and Regent's Park Underground stations require a walk, while bus route 274 stops closer to the zoo entrance.

Admission to the zoo is required to reach the historic Reptile House area. Use the current zoo map because exhibits and visitor routes can change.

The original building is the film location, not the zoo's newer Secret Life of Reptiles and Amphibians habitat. Treat it as one stop during a wider zoo visit rather than a standalone attraction.

Before you go

Opening and price

London Zoo is a paid attraction with date-based opening hours and admission. Booking online in advance is recommended, and the historic building's presentation or internal access may change independently of zoo opening.

Parking

Paid parking is available subject to capacity, with different arrangements for members and peak dates. Central London traffic and parking make public transport the better choice for most visitors.

Accessibility

Most of London Zoo is wheelchair accessible with level or ramped entrances to most buildings, though some paths are uneven and tunnel slopes are steep. Accessible toilets and a Changing Places facility are available, and eligible visitors can book an essential carer ticket.

Nearby facilities

The zoo has toilets, accessible facilities, cafés, picnic spaces, shops, first aid and family facilities. Check the current map for the closest services to the Reptile House.
