Steall Falls and Nevis Gorge appear behind the action during the Triwizard Tournament in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The waterfall is reached on a short but serious Highland path with rough ground and exposed drops.
The coordinates point to Steall Falls itself. To reach the trailhead car park, follow signs from Fort William through Glen Nevis and continue beyond Lower Falls until the public road ends.
The path enters Nevis Gorge and crosses rough rock above steep drops before opening onto the meadow opposite the waterfall. Sturdy footwear and care are essential, especially after rain or during ice.
You do not need to cross the optional wire-rope bridge to get a clear view of Steall Falls. Turn back if conditions, river levels or the exposed path feel unsafe.
The walking route is free and has no staffed opening hours. Access can be affected by severe weather, ice, forestry operations or road conditions, so check locally before setting out.
Parking at the road end is very limited and turning space must be kept clear. You may have to wait for a space to free up. Never park outside marked areas or block emergency access. Lower Falls car park is an alternative if the trailhead is full, but parking there adds approximately 30 minutes of walking in each direction before you reach the Steall Falls trailhead.
This is not an accessible path. It includes uneven rock, narrow sections, mud and unguarded drops, and is unsuitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs and visitors uncomfortable with exposure.
There are no toilets, café, shelter or visitor facilities at the trailhead. Use facilities lower in Glen Nevis or Fort William and carry everything needed for the walk.
